Background:
This work was created as part of a new series exploring animal shapes in a symbolic way, tentatively titled 'Menagerie'. The surface builds from translucent glazes to bolder marks, evoking a scene, a fragment of a story, a moment. From a personal point of view, foxes are a frequent visitor to a circus tent like structure at the back of a garden I know, but one blink and they are gone, as if they never existed at all. I like the metaphorical aspect of that image that is so fleeting as a reference to memories we hold that often seem imagined or hallucinatory but which we know were real.
